finally something to blog about...

Woo hoo! I finally have something to blog about other than my children :) I will update on them too...

I have been working hard on getting Teen MOPS started at our church and finally today was THE DAY!!! The pastor loved our ministry plan (which was ALOT of work to put together) and we are now an official ministry of Indian Creek Christian Church. We will be reaching out to teen moms and showing them God's unconditional love. There is such a need for these young moms to feel loved and supported at this crucial time in their lives. We have the ability to turn their lives around and turn them on to a life with Christ! I can't wait for August 15th, which will be our launch date for our first meeting! I hope we can reach LOTS of young moms!

Now on to the kiddies....

Aubrey has grown so much lately that it's a good thing the season is about to change because she is about out of clothes that fit :) She has been behaving much better and we continue to work on those issues everyday. Since the weather was nice for a little bit she got to work on riding her bike that Santa brought and she does great! She is into all of the older Disney movies right now: 101 Dalmations, Bambi, Aristocats...and of course today we got Tangled!!

Cadence is almost 21 months now and is just the sweetest thing! She was really sick about 2 weeks ago with a terrible stomach flu that lasted 5 days with vomiting and diarrhea...fun for me! Then she had one day of feeling better before she spiked a high fever from what we learned was a double ear infection. Now that she feels better, she is all over the place! She says all kinds of things but most of the time we have no idea what she is saying :) She RUNS everywhere and very rarely walks...she tends to have the "ouchie" to prove this fact. She LOVES her babies and usually has to sleep with 1 or 2. It's really cute!

We put our house up for sale about 2 weeks ago. So far we have had ZERO showings! I am sure we will have to drastically cut the price to sell it, but we are really not in a huge hurry to sell so we are able to "wait it out" for a while. We would love a house with a basement and an extra bedroom or two for a future little one or two :) And it would be nice if it was a little closer to Josh's work in Columbus but does not necessarly have to be.

Anyways, I''l try to post more often that once every 6 months :)

Aubrey's 4th Birthday

I can't believe Aubrey just turned 4!! That is so crazy! We have been through so much with her and we are so thankful to God for giving her to us! She brings us such great joy and always makes us laugh. Her personality is alot like her mama...independent and strong-willed and knows what she wants :) She loves going to pre-school, just finished playing soccer and now she is asking to do gymnastics....very busy girl! We love her so much!

It's crazy that 4 years ago these pictures were taken. It doesn't seem that long ago! She was 3 weeks early due to pregnancy complications, then in the NICU for about a week, many Riley appointments, colic for 4 months, hospitalized with pneumonia for a week a day after her first birthday, lots of respiratory problems until she turned 3, and ever since then she's been pretty healthy! It's about time! :)

Aubrey had a Little Mermaid birthday party with all of her friends and family there. We played games, ate pizza, opened presents, and had cake and ice cream. She got TONS of Ariel stuff for her birthday which she has been playing with everyday!

For her actual birthday (which fell on a Monday), we went to Anderson Apple Orchard and then to the Incredible Pizza Place for her birthday dinner. She is so spoiled but we love her so much! :)

Grandpa

I lost the best grandpa in the whole world this past week! I am lucky I was there to hold his hand and sit by his bed as he took his last breaths. I will miss him terribly but I know he is in Heaven. His marriage to my grandma of 64 years is a testimony to so many! He was also a World War II veteran and served on the front lines of war. He was a great farmer, business man, and family man. His grandbabies held a special place in his heart.

Here is my all time favorite picture of me with my grandpa...I used to ride in his conbine while he picked corn and most of the time I fell asleep in there! :)

Cadence's 1 Year Pictures

Here are the pictures from Cadence's 1 year photo session. The pictures turned out great despite her being fussy and then falling head first off of the chair onto the cement. Thankfully Rachel was able to photshop and make the rest of the pictures black and white so you couldn't see the redness and swelling :) Hopefully our family photo session will go better this fall!

Soccer and Preschool

Aubrey started soccer practice this week and she absolutley LOVES it! She is so cute! She also loves having her daddy as her Assistant Coach. She is getting so big!

This same week she also started preschool again, this time at a new school. She currently goes 2 days a week and LOVES school! She looked so big walking in with her backpack on. She is quite proud of her new Princess backpack that Grandma Cindy bought for her.

Garden Recipes

Fresh Tomato Salsa
3 cups chopped tomatoes
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 cup diced onion
1/4 cup minced fresh cilantro
2 tbsp. lime juice
2 jalapeno peppers with seeds, choppped
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp black pepper

Mix together and serve with chips

Gucamole
3 large avacados
1 lime (juiced)
1-1 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
1/2 cup diced onion
3 tbsp. minced fresh cilantro
2 roma tomatoes chopped

Mash everything up together and serve with the salsa and chips

Zucchini Cream Pie
1 1/2 cups cooked zucchini
1 1/2 cup sugar
3 tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 can sweetened condensed milk
1 pie crust
cinnamon, sugar, nutmeg

Don't let the name of this recipe fool you! It is an amazingly tasty pie!!! You will NOT be disappointed!

Shred, boil, drain (very well), and then blend the zucchini so it is an applesauce consistency. You will need 1 1/2 cups of this, so you will need to start with a large zucchini or several small ones. It will cook WAY down.

Mix everything together, adding the sweetened condensed milk last.

Pour into the unbaked pie shell and sprinkle with cinnamon, sugar, and nutmeg.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 4o minutes or until the middle is not jiggly.

Enjoying Summer....

So now that all of the craziness of June and early July are over with for us, we have been enjoying a wonderfully relaxed July! The last couple of weekends have been spent with friends and family and enjoying time with Aubrey and Cadence.

Cadence is growing so fast now! She can say what a cat AND a dog says now...its VERY cute!! She says mama and dada and mo-mo (which means more). She is walking/running everywhere and anywhere, especially wherever Aubrey is. She has learned how to pick a fight with her big sister :) We are working on wearing shoes, although she would rather be barefoot. Totally like her momma and big sis :) Her left foot turns in a little bit so her left shoe always wants to fall off. Hopefully she will correct on her own. The last week has been rough for all of us since she is cutting 2 of her top molars at the same time. Her poor gums are so swollen that it makes me hurt to look at them! She wakes up screaming a few times a night and has been pretty grumpy. We have been giving her extra love and tylenol. Praying they come through soon!!

Aubrey is growing so fast too! We are working on her behavior issues which are mostly related to having to share the attention from others. We have had to really get strict with warnings and following through but we are finally making some progress and we hope she basically outgrows it soon. She is in love with Ariel from the Little Mermaid! Everything MUST be Ariel now! She starts a new pre-school in a few weeks, and I think we are both looking forward to that. :)And we have her on the wait list for soccer this fall and hoping daddy will get to be her coach :)

I am loving every second of having a garden this summer. I have learned TONS of new recipes for garden products which I will hopefully post soon! Tonight I made fresh salsa with my tomatoes and green peppers and a few other ingredients along with guacamole. It was SO good that I am pretty sure that Josh and I will finish it up tonight.

I will try to post a couple of recipes soon...

The Party is over...

I am so sad that the BIG party is over!! My baby girl, Cadence Joy, turned one on July 1st and her big party was July 3rd. She is so beautiful and so sweet. She melts our hearts everytime she smiles...which is all the time :)

Josh took the day off on July 1st and we all went to the zoo. It was such a great day and everyone was happy. We saw the dolphins show, rode the train, had lunch, rode the carousel, and saw lots of animals! Cadence and Aubrey both had such a great time. We are so blessed with our little girls! I love them so much!

Here is a picture of Cadence the day she was born and then one year later!

On Saturday, July 3rd we had a wonderful birthday party for Cadence with most of our friends and family there. She had a beautiful ladybug cake and cupcakes to eat and tons of other food. She got some really great birthday presents including a really cool handmade/handpainted growth chart, splash table, books, fun toys, and very cute clothes. It was so nice to have our friends and family together to celebrate Cady's big day....even great grandma and grandpa Landers were able to come, which was really special to all of us.

On Sunday, the Fourth of July, we went down to the canal with Aunt Mary Jo and rode the four seater surrey all the way up and down the canal. The girls loved it even though it was very hot! We stopped to play in some of the beautiful waterfalls along the way. Then we came home and they played in Cadence's new water/splash table. What a fun weekend! We are so blessed!!

It's been too long...

It's been too long since I last posted something on here. We have been CRAZY busy this month!! Where should I start???...

The Florida bachelorette trip was so fun and so crazy! It was nice to do what I wanted whenever I wanted...oh and the beach and drinks just made everything great! :) We went on a very fun pirate ship cruise at sunset which had all you could drink.

I can't wait until the wedding next weekend! I was so excited when I took my dress to get alterations that she actually had to take it IN!!! I was way excited :)

After my trip to Florida, I had signed up to teach a preschool group at our church's vacation bible school for 4 nights. Aubrey was in my class...for a bout 1 1/2 nights. She went home the first two nights early and crying...after the second night she was crying and holding her belly saying it hurt real bad. Of course it was 9:00pm so we headed to the Riley ER. She had a UTI so she missed the next night of VBS. Then Cadence woke up from her nap feeling warm and had a fever of 101!! Really??? I took her to the doctor and she had tonsilitis. So 2 copays and 3 prescriptions later I had burned through all of my fun money for the week. Here is a picture of me and Aubrey heading to VBS:

This past weekend I flew to Atlanta for a short trip to see my little cousin get married. It was all outside and was about 95 degrees without a cloud in the sky...SO HOT! But it was a beautiful and fun wedding.

And finally amongst all of the craziness of the month, we have been planning baby Cadence's first birthday party. I am so excited and very sad at the same time! I can't believe she is going to be one!! We are working on a ladybug theme with lots of bright pinks and greens. As most of my friends and family know that I am a planner and LOVE to plan parties and events. So I am very excited about her party coming up on July 3rd.

She is such a cutie! She has been walking like crazy and can even stand up and walk on her own. She wants to do anything her big sister does. She can say "dada", "momo"(which means more, more), and "mama". Lately we have been working on what a cat says and she can say a very cute "meow." :)

Craziness...

So, while I have no business sitting at my computer and typing out a blog..I needed a mommy break, so hear goes....

This is week #2 of Josh working overtime at his regular job. While the money is nice we sure do miss him! In addition to his overtime his "side job" called and said they could really use him this week. Oh and did I mention I am leaving for Florida on Thursday!!! I have nothing ready, laundered, packed, etc... Since all of last summer I was pregnant I am in desperate need of going to the mall. However, I have an 11 month old and a 3 year old who I would have to lug around shopping with me :) I think I will have to attempt the mall tomorrow with them both and see what happens. Thank goodness for Auntie Anne's Pretzels and lemonade! That should keep them busy for a few minutes.

On a happier note, I enjoyed spending time with the girls today! It was such a beautiful (and HOT) day that I put the baby pool on the deck and they had a blast! Here is a picture of them today in their new swimsuits!

Mary Mary Quite Contrary, How Does Your Garden Grow

So I am attempting the whole gardening thing again...yes I said again. As some know I had a garden when we first got our house, however I ended up planting a little early and forgetting to give it water and I ended up with a very tiny harvest of peas :)

But this year will be different!!! So here is a picture of my garden which I planted last week. I am already beginning to see signs of life! I planted the following, wax beans, carrots, lima beans, watermelon, strawberries, squash, canteloupe, tomatos, zucchini, broccoli, various peppers, and onions. Now most of these were already plants when I bought them except for the beans and the carrots. So I was very excited when I checked on the garden today to see tiny bean sprouts!!!

Wish me luck, I will probably need it! :)

Our Info

So, as I am still learning how to create my blog and all that goes with that...I thought I would attempt to put up a picture. This is a picture we took before heading to Aubrey's Preschool Festival of the Arts Program.
Here is some info on our family for those of you who may not know us quite that well yet...
Josh and I have been married for 8 years now! Most of you know that we were high school sweethearts and married while we were in college. We both graduated from Purdue ("Boiler Up!!") with BS degrees..me in business management and Josh in engineering. He is my sugar daddy as I stay home and raise the girls :)
Aubrey came along in October 2006 and is now 3 1/2 years old. She is my little "mini-me" as Josh would put it....independent, stubborn, and so darn cute!!! After a rocky start with her health she has been very well since hitting th 2 year mark. Although she has been clinically diagnosed with Beckwith-Weidemann Syndrome since almost birth, she has almost outgrown all of the noticeable features of it. Since many have not heard of Beckwith-Weidemann Syndrome, it is basically a childhood overgrowth genetic condition. Aubrey's features were: large for gestational age, large protruding tongue (classic feature), abdominal wall defects/large umbilical hernias (surgically repaired), and an increased risk of abdominal tumors (which she is tested for every 3 months). BWS kids outgrow the risks and most features by the time they are 8 years old. She keeps us on our toes and is the cause of ALOT of our laughs with the things she says and repeats :)
Cadence is now 10 months...which is absolutley crazy! This year has been flying by! She is by far the cutest thing ever and one of the happiest little babies I have ever seen. She is such a snuggler and is struggling with learning how to go to sleep without being rocked (so are mommy and daddy). She is a very fast crawler and can get to the toilet in record time if she thinks she might have a chance at splashing in the water (totally gross and we try to remember to keep the lid down!). She is working on sleeping through the whole night but teething seems to keep interfering just as soon as we get a few good nights. She is always attached to my hip and is a HUGE "mommy's girl."
Hope this helps give a little info and insight into our family....looking forward to giving updates and funny stories which will most likely come from something Aubrey has done or said :)

Entering the Blogging World....

Well I am attempting to figure out how to blog....apparently it is the cool thing to do when you have kids. I would love to be able to make my blog cute and add lots of pictures but I am not quite there yet...hopefully soon!
